Rauschenberger plans U.S. Senate bid

July 31, 2003

WASHINGTON--State Sen. Steven J. Rauschenberger (R-Elgin) said Wednesday he will file papers to launch an exploratory campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Rauschenberger said he will submit his paperwork to become a candidate with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.

"It's a question of the Republicans fielding someone who is competitive" next year, he said.

Rauschenberger, a senator since 1992, is an assistant majority leader.
